State Champs

On May 2, the Indiana high school anglers competing on Patoka Lake for the Student Angler Federation state championship faced tough conditions. Leading up to the event, the temperatures dropped from 80 to 39, and five inches of rain fell when the cold front ripped through.

Tipton High School took four teams to the competition. One of the Blue Devils teams, however, seemed unaffected by the dramatic weather shift. Grayson Parker and Micah White caught 18.1 pounds of bass to top the other 50 teams by nearly three pounds.

By winning the state title, Parker and White now have qualified for the national finals/world finals on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky June 21-27. Two other Tipton teams also qualified to go to Lake Cumberland.

Tipton, the first student angler club in Indiana, has now won five state titles: 2011, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2026.

The club is led by teachers Dave Case and Doug White, with Hink Hinkle as the team’s coach.

Good luck at the nationals, Blue Devils!
