Fire Station 1
Description
We built the state-of-the-art, 23,500-square-foot Fire Station 1 at the Indianapolis International Airport as part of the Midfield Terminal Project. The firehouse straddles secure and unsecure areas; so as with many of our projects, we were able to adhere to the strict security guidelines throughout the duration of the project. The project comprised a command center and training tower, sleeping and living quarters, full-service kitchen, and fitness facilities. We also built an apparatus bay capable of housing eight vehicles. Severe rain and snow events—10 inches of rain in the fall and 12 inches of snow in winter—kept us on our toes and required additional communication and resources in addition to adhering to the already stringent airport policies.
