Kankakee Sands

Description

Kankakee Sands has been called a “prairie jewel in progress.” The 8,400 acres in northwest Indiana, host a bison herd, hundreds of bird species, and more than 600 species of native plants that once covered Indiana.

Working with the Nature Conservancy, we upgraded the visitor’s center and parking lots. We also improved the Bison Viewing Area. The upgrades now allow even more visitors to enjoy this prairie and imagine a time before settlers moved into the area.
