Eagle Scout Project

When we received Gavin Skok’s request for his Eagle Scout project, we were happy to oblige. The junior at Zionsville High School is not only a member of Scout Troop 804, but he also belongs to his school’s marching band.

Skok proposed upgrading the marching band’s storage area under the home bleachers of the football stadium. Old, rotten plywood sat atop river rock making it difficult to access their equipment. A concrete pad would help volunteers and band members avoid injuries from tripping over warped plywood and loose gravel while prolonging the lifespan of the stored equipment.

Since we already had a crew renovating the sports facilities at Zionsville High School, we made quick work of removing the plywood, setting forms, and pouring a clean, 17’x 53′ concrete slab. Our friends at IMI Materials donated 14 yards of concrete.

The addition of this slab will allow students, staff, and adult volunteers to move equipment more safely and efficiently, Gavin says. “Words cannot express my appreciation for Mr. Whitaker and the entire RLTurner team as well as IMI Materials,” he says. “Their advice, flexibility, and support were instrumental to the success of my Eagle Scout project.”

Approximately six percent of eligible Scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout. So, we’re happy to have played our small part. Congratulations, Gavin—you’re almost there!
